MTLT refuse to give up on Mkg DC’s statement

Dimapur, May 4 (MExN): In response to the press statement issued by the Watsü Mungdang in regard to the apology tendered by Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung Lithrongla G Chishi, the Mokokchung Town Lanur Telungjem (MTLT) felt that “the Watsü Mungdang is not the right body to clarify on the individual’s behalf.”
“With all due respect to the Watsü Mungdang, the Mokokchung Town Lanur Telungjem (MTLT) has no motive of questioning the intention of the Watsü Mungdang in giving a press statement about the Mokokchung DC’s assertion, but it is felt that the Watsü Mungdang is not the right body to clarify on the individual’s behalf,” stated the press note issued by MTLT president Imkongsanen Imchen and secretary Akangnüngsang Jamir.
The statement made by the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung Lithrongla G Chishi at the 18th General Conference Watsü Mungdang on 15th April 2011, about the 1000 sex workers in Mokokchung, as appeared in the local dailies, has shocked all the citizens of Mokokchung and has became an issue of debate among the intellectuals and the common people in the town. This statement made by a well educated and respected district administrator has created a big confusion in the town in front of thousands of respected Ao women and has created disarray in the society. In this regard, the MTLT strongly questioned the concerned individual about the source of the information. But regretfully, the association has not been given a satisfactory reply. It is more surprising to note that the Watsü Mungdang has given a reply in this regard in some local dailies on April 28 and 29 editions.
The MTLT restated that the statement of Mokokchung DC has greatly tarnished the image of Mokokchung, and therefore Watsü Mungdang alone cannot be the sole authority to accept the apology on behalf of the citizens of Mokokchung. Besides, it reiterated that the citizens of Mokokchung are baffled by the intention of the concerned individual to utter such an unimaginable comment in front of thousands of Ao women.
Therefore, the MLTL demands that a proper public apology should be made. “A proper clarification is needed here; if the comment was made by a slip of tongue or if the statement was based on hard fact, the concerned individual should come out with a public declaration at the earliest,” they further stated.
