Two Multi Level Car Parking (MLCP) lot were inaugurated at the state capital Kohima today. Union Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs and Petroleum & Natural Gas, Govt of India Hardeep Singh Puri, formally inaugurated the MLCP at NST bus station while another MLCP at Old Medical Directorate (PR Hill) was inaugurated by Nagaland’s Governor La Ganesan in the presence of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.

Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL) CEO Er. K. Theunuo today said that inauguration of the multi parking lots will limit and discourage parking on the streets. Er. Theunuo said that the construction of MLCP in the state capital Kohima was a long awaited need which will considerably ease the traffic congestions, thereby aiding to a more regulated and smooth traffic flow and also incorporate modern parking smart solutions for the city.
“This will create more parking availability in limited spaces, which is desirable for citizens, businesses and events,” he said. It will limit and discourage parking on the streets, reduce accidents and dangerous parking habits and thereby create more space on the streets for the pedestrians, Er. Theunuo added.
Er Theunuo thanked both the contractors M/S Guolhoulie & Sons and M/S Viu Angami & Sons who tirelessly worked for the project with their team and successfully completed the projects with quality work and as per specifications. The operation & management of both the MLCPs will be carried out by the respective contractors as per contract agreement.
He said that Kohima Smart City has also taken up two more MLCPs projects, one at City Centre and another at Local Ground having the capacity of 120 cars each. “With these, Kohima city will have about 545 car parking availability at the heart of the city,” Er. Theunuo stated.
MLCP at NST Bus Station
The construction of MLCP at NST Bus station amounting to Rs 10.35 crore was also initially sanctioned by the Ministry of Urban Development, GoI under JNNURM Scheme during March 2009. This project was de-sanctioned due to fund constraint in the year 2015. The project was later handed over to KSCDL in 2018 under Smart City Mission.
The Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), KSCDL approved and sanctioned Rs 28.78 crore and the contract work was awarded to M/s Viu Angami & Sons and commenced on October 10, 2018 with the completion period of two years but was also delayed due to Covid -19 pandemic and completed only in July 2023.
MLCP at Old Medical Directorate
Construction of Multi Level Car Parking at Old Medical Directorate, Kohima amounting to Rs 13.86 crore was initially sanctioned by the Ministry of Urban Development, GoI under JNNURM Scheme during March 2009. However, due to fund constraints, the project was de-sanctioned on August 14, 2015 and left abandoned for more than 2 years.
Subsequently, with the institution of KSCDL, the project was handed over to Kohima Smart City on September 27, 2018 to be implemented under the Smart City Mission.
After taking over, the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), KSCDL approved the project and sanctioned Rs 31.22 crore and contract work was awarded to M/s Guolhoulie & Sons.
The work was commenced on October 10, 2018 with the completion period of two years but it was delayed for almost two years due to Covid-19 pandemic and was completed only in August 2023.
