Murder accused physically assaulted inside Imphal court complex

A man arrested in connection with the death of his wife was on Thursday assaulted physically by a group of women while he was being escorted by policemen from the courtroom.

 

 

Twenty-seven-year-old Ayekpam Chinglensana of Takyel Khongbal Leirak Achouba, Imphal West district, was arrested by the police in connection with the suspicious death of his wife who was found hanging in her bedroom on February 14 last.

 

 

Police arrested the husband based on a complaint lodged by the elder brother of the deceased woman on February 16 and produced in the court of Imphal West Chief Judicial Magistrate completing his police custody period.

 

 

The court remanded the accused further to the police custody till February 24.

 

 

When the accused was produced in the court, a group of women said to be relatives and localities of the parental home of the deceased woman stormed the court complex, demanding befitting punishment to the accused.

 

 

The womenfolk remained outside the court complex while the hearing was in progress amid the tightened security measure being in place while some women were inside the court complex as if they have nothing to do with the case.

 

 

When the police escorted back the accused from the courtroom, one of the women inside the court complex hit the accused with an object, following which other women began attacking the man by throwing slippers, water bottles and other objects.

 

 

The police escorting the accused had a brief tussle with the women while escorting him to police vehicle parked inside the court complex. The police vehicle hurriedly left the court complex with the accused.

 

 

As per the police report to the court, the deceased was found hanging inside her bedroom in the early morning on February 14. Police rushed her to RIMS hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead.

 

 

On February 16, the elder brother of the deceased woman lodged a complaint casting suspicion against husband Chinglensana.

 

 

During further investigation into the case, the police arrested Chinglensana (husband of the deceased woman).
