Requests Nagaland state government to take responsibility for border development projects

However, the Naga Yoeyas and Naga MPs firmly believe that, “if Naga companies from border areas in Nagaland, India take responsibility for border development projects, it will alleviate the suffering of the Myanmar Nagas.”

CM of Nagaland, during his visit to Myanmar, met the Speaker of Myanmar Upper House, CM of Mandalay and CM of Sagaiang Region. A press note issued by U Hla Tun on behalf of Myanmar Nagas stated that during the CM’s visit to Myanmar, Naga MPs and Naga Yoeya requested him if some companies who has huge assets and along with the support of the Government of Nagaland could take responsible for the border development projects sanctioned by the Government of India.

Myanmar Nagas and Naga MPs also requested the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and Indian Embassy, Yangon to let the sanctioned developmental projects for border developments to be handled by Naga companies in Nagaland, India as their border areas are developed.

The reason is that this approach will bring the developmental works in border areas at a much faster pace. Further, another reason is that Myanmar Naga companies bring machineries and all border developmental accessories from Nagaland, India as currently procuring such things from Monywa or Mandalay takes a lot of time.  “This in turn slows down the developmental works,” the note added.

It may be mentioned here that during the tenure of Prime Minister, U Thien Sein, Dr. Manmohan Singh came to Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar and in their discussion, the PM of India has committed to help US $5 million annually for the development of the Nagas in Myanmar and for Chin state for a period of five years. This developmental project began in 2012-2013 and development began for the first time in a planned manner.

For the year 2014-2015, Naga companies on the Indian side were given risk and responsibility for the development of the border area projects. These companies will work based on the international laws and within the Myanmar judicial system. They will register in Myanmar as a company and all works will be done within the provisions of the laws.
