Dimapur, June 27 (MExN): The Deputy General Manager, DGM – NABARD, M K Mandal inaugurated two farmers’ clubs in Changtongya area and four farmers' clubs in Tuli area on June 25 and 26 respectively, in the presence of Bank and Government officials of the District and Village Council Members attending the events in full strength.
A press note issued by Wangshikokla Jamir, Secretary of Molung's Women & Child Welfare Society (MWCWS), Dimapur stated that the farmers clubs were facilitated by the MWCWS, Dimapur. “NABARD had earlier identified the MWCWS as a lead NGO to facilitate development processes in Mokokchung District under NABARD support.”
It also stated that the Deputy General Manager, DGM – NABARD in his inaugural speech spoke on the need to address the problems of farmers on a priority basis. He said that India’s economy depend more than 80% on agriculture and thus the farmers deserve a better deal. Realizing on the importance of helping the farmers, the government of India has brought out many projects through NABARD to assist the farmers. The farmers club was introduced in the 1980s to give a concerted effort to boost productivity and to develop the farmers. The club members are expected to equip themselves with useful information by organizing frequent training programmes, and contacting different government departments and agencies for their help and support and increase their scopes and productivity.
The inauguration programme was followed by a Base Level Orientation Training (BLOT) which was also facilitated by Mandal and Poji, from NABARD, Dimapur. During the training, useful information on the routine and non-routine activities of farmers clubs, bank linkages and the “dos and don’ts” of the farmers club members individually and collectively were imparted to them.
Earlier, welcoming the officials and members of the farmers club, village council and the SHGs of the area, Wangshikokla Jamir, Secretary, MWCWS said that the inauguration of the Farmers Club in the area is a significant event. For so long the farmers have struggled but not receiving any inputs and useful information to help them. She hoped that the attending dignitaries from the banks, and different government departments would contribute to the success of the initiatives of farmers. She also thanked the bank officials for coming in full strength and pro-actively supporting the farmers clubs, it stated.
Other people who spoke on the occasion were the three Bank Managers of the area, the Civil SDO Changtongya, the Programme Coordinator of KVK Mokokchung, Advisor Board Town Councils, EAC, Tuli and Village Council Chairmen. The departments represented in the function were Agriculture, horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Forest, and Education departments. Moreover, the Chief Coordinators of the farmers clubs declared their intention to give their best cooperation with the bank, the supportive government departments, the village authority and the facilitating NGO. Copies of the public declarations were made available in printed forms to all the officials, the note stated.
