Home Minister Rajnath hits back saying Rahul ‘misled’ Parliament
New Delhi, March 2 (Agencies): Congress Vice President, Rahul Gandhi today attacked Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in Parliament on his claims about a “Naga Accord,” and questioned “where is the Naga accord now?”
While participating on the discussion on the motion of thanks to the President on his address to the joint sitting of parliament’s two houses, Gandhi said: “The Prime Minister told the Congress president that he has solved the Nagaland problem and signed a historic accord.”
“The Congress president asked us to check what happened because none of our Chief Ministers mentioned anything about the Naga accord,” Gandhi added.
He further stated, “Our North East Chief Ministers were stunned. They had not heard a word about any accord. What had the government signed? Where is Naga accord now? It’s gone with the wind. Bye Bye accord,” he said.
The Congress Vice President went on to allege that “even the Home Minister was not aware of the Naga Accord which PM signed.”
Gandhi further stated that “every government tried doing something in this regard, some efforts succeeded, some did not. The process went on, and no government should take credit for it as every one of them contributed its bit and this resulted in successful talks with them (NSCN-IM).” He however hoped that the new pact “would give good results.”
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh alleged that Gandhi “misled” the house on the “Naga Accord” by giving “false and baseless” information.
Minutes after Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of not consulting the Home Minister on the Naga Accord, Rajnath said: “I had several rounds of consultations with the PM on Naga peace process. I strongly condemn Rahul Gandhi’s attempt to mislead the house.” “... (his) statement on Naga Peace accord in Lok Sabha today (Wednesday) is completely false and baseless,” he added.
