Naga groups sign peace MoU

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 13 (MExN): Giving boost to the ongoing Naga unification process, the “GPRN/NSCN” and NNC/FGN (Non-accord), Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the two entities. “In the true spirit of Naga brotherhood and Nationalism, to restore peace, normalcy, dignity and unity in our land, to protect our identity, culture and tradition and to defend our land and its resources”, stated the press release from the Publicity Cell of the “GPRN/NSCN”. 

The MoU between the “NSCN” and the NNC/FGN, which was signed on January 12, 2008 at Vihokhu, Dimapur affirmed and declared to “strongly uphold the stand on unification of all the Nagas irrespective of artificial boundaries.” It also resolved to put an end to hostilities and killings among the Nagas and enable democratic participation and interaction among the Nagas to come together under one platform. 

The third point in the MoU stated that it would “explore avenues and ensure transparent pursuit of unification process on solid foundation (broad based) encompassing all sections of the Nagas to enable settlement of Naga cause.”

The meeting further constituted a co-ordination committee comprising of nine members from both the groups and entrusted the committee with the task of mobilizing the mass.

Meanwhile in a separate press statement, the Publicity Cell of “NSCN” made a pronouncement to the Naga people and the world that it stood to safeguard and unite the Nagas on the basis of the historical and political rights, and thereby to strengthen the political process through peaceful means. The release added that this pronouncement is made, despite their human limitations, to dispel any misgivings in the minds of the Nagas and thereby set the record straight. “We also clarify once and for all that, despite allegations of recent kidnapping for ransom being blamed on us, we testify before God and the Nagas that “Nagaland for Christ is the guiding faith of the on going Naga unification efforts” thus, the question of criminalization of the process do not arise and we condemn the acts”. May God be our witness and guide!” it stated. The release pointed out that the Public Pronouncement is made in response to the clarion call by various Naga national bodies, civil societies and the Church, on Naga unification.
