Kohima, September 8 (MExN): The Government of Nagaland is all set to introduce local language studies in schools throughout the State, starting 2018, under the banner of Naga Heritage Studies.
The Nagaland State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) informed this in a notification from its Director, Khrietuo Mezhür.
It was sent to all the Heads of private schools in Nagaland State as per a Government Notification NO.DSE/ESTT/LANG/1-56/2015 dated May 10, 2017, issued for the “preservation, protection and promotion of Naga languages.”
The notification states that “All Schools, both Government and Private shall introduce the local language of the linguistic area where the school is located upto the primary or elementary level depending upon the level of the development of the local language starting from Class I in schools where the local language has not been introduced from the academic session 2018.”
To facilitate this initiative, the SCERT and the Textbook Production Cell, School Education Department has collaboratively developed a new local language textbook series titled Naga Heritage Studies (MIL) for Classes I-V, for introduction in 2018.
In order to enable all private schools to make use of this series, stated the notification, a local publishing firm has been officially identified and mandated for publishing the Naga Heritage Studies textbooks.
All private schools have been directed to place their requirements of the textbooks for use in the 2018 academic session to Heritage Publishing House, Dimapur #03862248431 /+919436602654 /e-mail: hph.dmp@gmail.com before September 30, 2017.
