The Naga Hoho today made a call for the unity of all Nagas irrespective of state borders and urged all sections to contribute towards the strengthening of the Naga family.

This call was made during the meeting called by the Naga Hoho at the Agri Expo in Dimapur on August 28. The Naga Hoho also installed a new tenure of office bearers during the meeting. The new team is led by HK Zhimomi as the President; Yansithung Jami Lotha and Samson Remei as Vice President; and Elu Ndang as the General Secretary.

While acknowledging that several tribe hohos had officially abstained from participating in the meeting, Naga Hoho General Secretary, Elu Ndang said that the meeting saw representation from all Naga communities both within and across the state borders of Nagaland State.

The meeting affirmed the position that the “Naga Hoho is the only apex body representing all Nagas across borders,” Ndang stated. It also called for a united effort to prevent the “fragmentation of the Naga family.” While acknowledging and respecting the issues of concerns brought out by respective tribe hohos, the General Secretary informed that the meeting stressed on the need for the Naga people to have a “broader perspective.” This was an appeal reportedly also made by Naga representatives from Myanmar, Assam and Manipur.

With regard to the current Indo-Naga peace talks, the meeting reiterated the need for all groups to come together and speak in unison.  It further made clear that any Naga solution should involve all Naga people and not just the State of Nagaland.

Meanwhile, the General Secretary assured that the new team leading the hoho would continue to work towards reaching out to all apex bodies and appeal for strengthening the hoho. “We have to come together at this crucial hour. Unity will be our main aim,” he added.
