Naga Hoho denounces assault on Reverend

Dimapur, Jan 6 (MExN): The Naga Hoho totally denounces the physical and ‘mental assault’ meted out to Rev. K. Luruo, Executive Secretary of Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC) and also member of NBCC Peace Committee by two NSCN (IM) activists at Mission Compound, Pfutsero, on December 30, 2006. The Hoho also termed as ‘heart-breaking’ the ongoing conflict between the two Naga brothers, Yimchunger and Tikhir over Shamator town.

On the assault of the reverend, the Naga Hoho cautioned that such atrocities by the “freedom fighters” would only crate more adversaries which may well be a “political cathestrophe”.

“Robbing and physical assault committed wantonly by any cadres under the banner of ‘freedom fighters’ at this particular point of political transition is akin to spitting upon one’s own face and absolutely against what they advocate and profess for a brighter future for the Nagas” the Hoho through its Publicity Secretary P Chuba Ozukum stated in a note of condemnation. Warning that such would only invite more adversaries to impact a gradually political catastrophe, the Naga Hoho reminded that time and again it has been fervently appealing to all the leadership irrespective of groups to instill a sense of consideration and caution among its cadres when dealing with the general public because “an ant may well destroy a whole dam”.

On the Tikhir-Yimchunger imbroglio, the Naga Hoho appealed to the two sides to thrash out their differences on the table and renew their relations and friendship. “Emergence of hatred and killings between the two Naga brothers of Yimchunger and Tikhir over the separation of tribe is very heart breaking. The Naga Hoho strongly feels that though it is a very long pending issue, yet it concerns every Naga” it stated.  While lauding the State machineries for bringing the situation under control, the Naga Hoho suggested the state Government work out a strategy. It called for formulation of a policy towards bringing a permanent solution to the hostility between the two Naga “tribes”. The Hoho appeals to both the tribes to renew friendship and thrash out the matter amicably.
