Search committee formed for new leadership
Dimapur, August 4 (MExN): The Naga Hoho 3rd Federal Assembly unanimously resolved to terminate its “incumbent Executive Council” with immediate effect, citing a functional “standstill” and appointed a three-month caretaker administration to oversee the apex tribal body’s affairs.
The decision was taken during the Assembly convened on July 31 at the Sha Complex, Tahamzam (Senapati) Headquarters, Manipur, an update received here stated. The proceedings, made public to ensure transparency, detailed the House’s review of the Executive Council’s functioning. Following detailed deliberations on submissions from the Council, the House determined that its operations had come to a halt, invoking Article 8(1)(5) of the Yehzabo of the Naga Hoho to effect the termination.
The House endorsed the incumbent Assembly Speaker, Pauheu Newme, to oversee the affairs of the Naga Hoho as Caretaker for a period of three months.
Concurrently, a seven-member Search Committee was nominated to facilitate the restructuring process and nominate a new Executive Council. The Committee, to be convened by former Naga Hoho President Chuba Ozukum, includes Lorho (President, UNC), Tonyho Sumi, Ningthoudai Gonmei (President, ZB), and Wairok Hangsing (President, Maring Tribe Hoho/MUA) as members.
The Search Committee has been tasked with completing its exercise and presenting its recommendations for formal appointment and swearing-in within three months, or until the installation of the new Executive Council is completed. The House expressed its collective hope that the restructuring would strengthen the Naga Hoho and foster unity, coordination, and effective leadership for the welfare of the Naga people.
In a separate resolution, the House acknowledged the vacancy in the post of Assembly Secretary following the recall of the Lotha Public Organization’s representative, who had personally concurred with the parent body’s decision. To ensure the smooth functioning of the office, the House endorsed the United Naga Council (UNC) to nominate and fill the vacant post at the earliest.
The Naga Hoho has appealed for the support and cooperation of all Naga people as it undertakes this process of renewal and strengthening of its apex body.
