Naga lad at European Medical Conference

Dimapur, March 23 (MExN): A medical student from Nagaland was adjudged a winner at one of the largest student conferences in Europe. Rhondemo A Kikon, a General Medicine student at Victor Babes University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Timisoara, Romania attended the 8th edition of Leiden International Medical Student Conference (LIMSC) at Leiden University, Netherlands from March 13-17. 

At the conference, Rhondemo presented his research project, “Retrospective study on the prevalence of tuberculosis amongst the indigenous tribes living at the Indo-Myanmar border” covering Longwa village and Mon Town, Nagaland in 2012, which was conducted in collaboration with Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors without Borders) and Revised National Tuberculosis Program. And for which he was adjudged the winner in the public health session and third position in the overall best oral presentation and research and was awarded certificate and cash prize.

200 active Medical and Bio Medical Students from top institutions from 40 different countries like Norway, Denmark, Germany, Italy, China, Japan, India and Netherlands presented their research and project proposal ranging from stem cell research, neurosurgery and multimodal imaging at the conference, Rhondemo said.

Rhondemo is currently studying 6th Year Medical Course and after completion, plans to pursue postgraduate studies in Global Public Health and Policy from United Kingdom, and “return back to India to work for the uplift of public health care system.”
