Mongchen Senso Telongjem appeals to Indian, Malaysian govt
Dimapur, May 29 (MExN): 24 year old Moasangba Imchen, serving as an overseas merchant navy technician at Bendolo, Miri state, Malaysia, has been reported missing from the ship in which he was employed since May 23, 2013.
Speaking to The Morung Express, Tinuniken, father of Moasangba said that his son had left Nagaland on July 2012 to work as an overseas merchant navy technician. Sharing latest information on the situation, he said that a letter from the Malaysian High Commission was received on May 28, 2013 officially acknowledging that a complaint has been received and search instated for the missing person. It also stated that no dead body has been found yet.
Tinuniken who works as a traffic constable with the Nagaland Police expressed gratitude for the help received from the government. He further appealed for thorough investigation. It may be mentioned that search and rescue operations in such circumstances are conducted over a period of seven days, which in this case will end on May 31.
In relation to this information, a press note issued by A. Imkong, President of Mongchen Senso Telongjem (MST) has informed that till date, the family has been no concrete report on how he went missing from the ship. Owing to this, the family has been left in a dilemma over the incident over the past week.
MST in the press note has appealed to the authorities of the Indian government as well as the Malaysian government and all concerned agencies and authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and shed some light on the incident at the earliest. The Telongjem (union) also appealed to the Government of Nagaland to continue to press New Delhi about the issue so that a clear and detailed investigation is carried out without any bias.
“If he is really deceased like we all fear, based on humanitarian grounds, we kindly request the concerned organization and authority to see to it that he makes his final journey back home so that the family will be able to perform the last rites as per our tradition,” MST said in the note.
MST also affirmed that Moasangba Imchen, son of Tinuniken Ao of Mongchen village, and a permanent resident of Dimapur, has always been a bonafide member of the Telongjem. “We express our gratitude to individuals at the top official level and various other organizations for your yeomen services and assisting us in this manner. We will be needing your help even in the days to come,” stated the MST.
