Imphal | July 27

Naga frontal organizations today strongly denounced the broad daylight  killing of a pregnant woman allegedly by Manipur state police commandos on July 23 at the busy Imphal market. The woman was identified as Thokchom Rabina. She was allegedly killed in front of her 3 years old son by the police commandoes, it was stated.

The United Naga Council, All Naga Students’ Association of Manipur, Naga Women’s Union of Manipur, and Naga Peoples’ Movement for Human Rights joined other civil organizations of Manipur in expressing utter shock that the state police had  inflicted another  ‘casualty’ on civilians. The Manipur state police department and policing system’s extra-judicial killing, state terrorism and fake encounter have been a nightmare for the people of Manipur, the Naga organizations said.

The organizations said that the state’s security forces, instead of providing protection and security, are also extorting and terrorizing the people. This is one reason why the hill people are opposed to the Manipur Cabinet’s decision to deploy the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) and Manipur police commandos in the hill areas of Manipur, the organizations said. The government led by O Ibobi including all the MLAs must own moral responsibility and should resign from their positions for failing to address the suffering of the people, they demanded. The Naga frontal organizations have assured full support in all sorts of democratic protests to be launched by the joint action committee (JAC) formed against the killing of Rabina and her unborn son till the demands are met.
