Naga People’s Front severs ties with BJP

• Says BJP fomenting instability in Nagaland

• To approach President to recall Governor

DIMAPUR, JULY 18 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front(NPF) has resolved to sever ties with the BJP. The NPF has been associated with the BJP since 1977.

This was decided in an emergency meeting of the Central Executive Council, central office bearers, division presidents and frontal organization office bearers of the NPF at the party’s central office in Kohima on Tuesday night.

A press statement from the Resolution Committee Convener, Sebastian Zumvu and members Pusazo Luoruo, Lepshi Ao, Shingnyu Khiam and Zaku Tsukru said that the BJP has decided to foment instability in the state “for its own selfish ends in the near future.”

The party also resolved to approach the President of India to recall the Governor of Nagaland immediately “so that the sanctity of the gubernatorial office in the State is maintained in the future.”

Observing the “undue haste and favour shown by the Governor of Nagaland towards the dissident legislators,” the NPF questioned the neutrality and the apolitical stand of the Governor.

It viewed that the Governor has “misused, abused and tarnished the Raj Bhawan to favour rebellion within the NPF party to enhance the political fortunes of the BJP in Nagaland.”

Stating that the present CM, Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu, “in the short time since taking over the helms of affairs, had started to put his foot down to check corruption and malpractices in the State like back-door appointments, deduction of funds by legislators, making administration and governance transparent, attendance in office and other positive changes,” the NPF appealed to the people who want positive change in society to “come together and work for the betterment of the society in the days to come.”

It expressed alarm that the 10th Schedule of the Constitution of India is being circumvented by unethical elements with active support of political powers that be in the country to enhance their political fortunes.

It informed that the party would take all legal recourse to ensure that the aims and objectives of anti-defection laws as enshrined in the 91st amendment of the Constitution are upheld.

It meanwhile also urged the NLA Speaker to rise above political considerations and continue to be the very embodiment of propriety and impartiality.
