Naga political issue, a perfect alibi for defectors: NPCC fires back at Chishi

The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee to hit back at its former leader K.L. Chishi’s comments that the Indian National Congress (INC) “has no mind to bring about a final settlement to the Naga issue.”

“Many before him have also joined the NPF-BJP bandwagon on the pretext of bringing an early solution to the Naga political issue but this only remains a perfect alibi for political defectors to cover up their guilt and shame before the people,” the NPCC asserted in a press release through its Media Cell.

“His new found love for BJP-RSS does not entail him to blame everything on Congress especially on the Naga political settlement,” it said. In this regard, the NPCC ‘requested’ Chishi “to find some other issues rather than join the chorus of other political defectors to protect the dignity of the office of CM he once held for a brief time.”

Interacting with media a day after his resignation on Sunday, Chishi said that he also “felt insulted over his inclusion as a member of Coordination Committee of the party for the forthcoming general elections in the State.”

“Only a national party with daring determination can bring about final solution… The BJP which has the guts to initiate and finalize the solution between the Government of India and the Naga people,” he had maintained.

The former Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader on Monday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

It is “very unfortunate” that a senior leader like Chishi decided to “leave the Congress party and suddenly started finding fault with the organization and blaming everyone except himself,” the NPCC said in the release.

It further pointed out that the Party had always given him the opportunity despite his “prodigal ways” but his “migratory instincts” has not sobered down.

“His resignation for the third time from Congress party is a record of sorts and we can only wish him the best in his new political abode,” the NPCC retorted adding that, the Party is in “the process of filtering out the elements of leaders who are directly or indirectly responsible for the plight of the party for the past 15 years.”

Many dedicated party workers and upcoming leaders, it further claimed, parted ways with the Party due to the “overbearing attitude” of those seniors. The former leader, it indicated, was one of them.

In this regard, the NPCC asserted that an opportunity is being presented to all secular and progressive minded people in the state to join hands with Congress and defeat the “combined regional and communal forces of NPF-BJP and its offshoots like NDPP who have destroyed the state in every sphere of governance.”

“Congress is the only roadblock in the grand designs of the BJP-RSS,” it stated, further appealing the people to understand the “grim situation at hand before it is too late”. “Congress has been and will always be the voice of the people,” it asserted.
