Naga society is undergoing metamorphosis: Er. Levi

Kohima, February 24 (MExN): Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) deputy speaker Er. Levi Rengma said that the structure of our Naga society is undergoing metamorphosis due to urbanization, westernization, industrialization and politicization, which in turn is adding new problems to the family and society as well.

Inaugurating the new school building of Government Primary school at Lower Tesophenyu on February 22, Er. Levi said that it is important that the children are given proper education and should be taught to have self respect and discipline from childhood.

To be able to read and write is the greatest gift to the modern men and women which enables many to be taken in, as spoken and written words cannot be denied and it becomes a tool of power, he added.

He further said that it is very important that the children grow up to be responsible citizens and it is the duty of the parents and teachers to inculcate in them the sense of responsibility, self respect and respect for others.

He also reminded the villagers that it is important that proper infrastructure should be provided to the students where they will learn to respect the school and the education system as well.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Zaveyi Nyekha, director school education, Pollem Tep, additional director school education, Theyivilie, assistant district coordinator DMA, SSA, presidents of Tesophenyu Group Union and Tesophenyu Officers Forum.

The programme was chaired by Watilo Jemu, SDEO Tseminyu. Welcome address was delivered by Mezaseng Jemu chairman Tesophenyu Village Council while brief report of the building construction was given by Agwalo Mesung, chairman VEC. Vote of thanks was proposed by Honthini Magh.
