Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Development and REPA, CL John today challenged Naga women to take a firm and bold decision in their fight for a place the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

John, who is in-charge of the Naga People’s Front women wing, opined that instead of asking for reservation, women should take bold decisions and directly face the elections and emerge victorious. He suggested that the NPF women wing should also work towards forwarding names of women candidates to contest the next Nagaland state elections.

Citing several women holding key posts in various departments in Nagaland, he strongly felt that women should stand up and face various challenges ahead. Speaking at the first consultative meeting of the NPF Central Women Wing here at the NPF Central HQ, John said that he wanted to see some women get elected to the next house of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

He urged upon the women wing to give special attention to the weaker sections of society. John lauded the sincere efforts and contributions made by the NPF women wing in the recent state elections and further urged them to strengthen the party and assist in taking the party principles and policies forward. He suggested that this could be done through house to house campaign.

He requested the women wing to be united and advised that all their grievances be discussed within the house in order to be a strong pillar for the NPF party. He claimed that the NPF is the oldest regional party in Nagaland and can uphold the Naga identity and tradition as well as work for the rights and welfare of Naga people. He reiterated the NPF stand on the Naga political issue for a solution that is honorable and acceptable to all sections of the people.

NPF central women wing President, Tonlih Wangsa asserted that the purpose of the consultative meeting was to create a friendly ambience and to bridge the gap among the party workers. In the last elections, she said, the central women wing had deputed various district in-charges to all the 13 divisions and rendered selfless services to the party at the grass root level. Women party workers have been awarded the “best performance,” she said.

She requested the leaders to give importance to women party workers in the days to come, “as we had come across in the past about women being neglected and ignored time and again.” She further challenged the gathering to work together with faith to ensure peace, development and progress in the state.

NPF General Secretary and frontal in-charge of women wing, T. Shuya and Rukimong also spoke at the meeting. The meeting was chaired by NPF Central women Wing Vice President, Aphien, while a vote of thanks was proposed by Kakheli Jakhalu, Vice President of the NPF Central Women Wing. The concluding remark was made by Sapralu Nyekha, General Secretary.
