
Kohima, April 19 (MExN): A meeting convened by the Joint Action Committee on Women Reservation (JACWR) today resolved to once again convey to the State Government and the State Election Commissioner to take cognizance of the Supreme Court order and hold municipal elections as per the Nagaland Municipal First Amendment Act at the earliest. The meeting held at Human Rights Law Network office, Kohima was attended by leaders from the units of the Naga Mothers Association, Eastern Naga Women Organisation, Watsu Mundang, Naga Women Hoho Dimapur, Tenyimia Women Organisation.
According to a release from JACWR, the marathon meeting deliberated the Supreme Court order granting the Special Leave Petition (SLP) to hold municipal elections in Nagaland with women reservation as per the Nagaland Municipal First Amendment Act.
Co-Convenor JACWR Dr. Rosemary discussed the Supreme Court order on the SLP and also went over the details of the Judgment order of the Single Judge AK Goswami of October 2011, which has been upheld and revived. The details of the Division Bench order which has been stayed by the Supreme Court were further discussed, the release said.
All tribe women leaders expressed happiness over the relief order given in favour of Naga women and placed on record the unity of Naga women leaders and sacrifice and appreciation to the two petitioners and leaders who have stood steadfast for Naga women’s constitutional rights, the release stated.
