DIMAPUR, NOV 9 (MExN): The FREE campaign was launched at Tuli Town Baptist Church on November 8 with a vision “Spiritual freedom, social empowerment and economic justice for all” and its mission of “witness Jesus Christ through evangelism and compassionate service unto fellow brethren in the power of the Holy Spirit.” The praise and worship team of the FREE campaign enlivened the audience with their lively songs.
Allen Imsong, Co-ordinator of the FREE campaign declared the launching of people’s movement, where they will facilitate the government in delivering developmental activities to the people based on social justice and not charity. He added that the focus will be made on burning issues on priority basis to ensure action-oriented implementation. Arlene mesmerized the audience with her beautiful rendition of the song ‘life uncommon.’ Rev Dr Pongsing Konyak, State Information Commissioner enlightened the congregation on the Right to Information Act (RTI).
He asserted that the Act was the latest ‘ground-breaking’ law of the land where all the working system of the government and its machineries are laid before the people. It is a people empowering Act where people should participate with the government by promoting transparency and accountability. Basing on Luke 4:16-19, he exhorted the congregation on proclamation of freedom, healing, restoration, rebuilding and new growth. “Jesus spoke out for the poor, the broken hearted, the oppressed and the blind; both physical and spiritual”. He stated that salvation should be understood in the light of a power to live victoriously here and then, because Jesus came to give life; that we may have it more abundantly” he said.
Rev Dr Pongsing gave a clarion call to the people that the foothills and plains of Tuli, Naganimora, Teru and Tizit area are most fertile and endowed with numerous mineral resources with the potential to become urban areas. He reminded of the immense possibilities that the land has to offer to those who seek and fear God. He cited Isaiah 45:3 where God promises treasures and riches. He stated that “we have our kitchens on the oil and our bedroom on the coal, and our villages established on numerous mineral deposits.”
He also expressed happiness on the revival plan of the Tuli Paper Mill and said that people’s participation is a must, to sustain this macro project which will benefit the whole Nagas. A challenging and inspiring testimony was also shared by Dr Lima Jamir, Chairman Nagaland Development Outreach. He emphasized on the change of heart in the people through love and forgiveness. The Church choir also presented a heart warming song of peace, harmony and prosperity for the land. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr Jamedi Longkumer.
