
Dimapur, June 5 (MExN): A delegation of eight young students and professionals, between the ages of 18-25, went to Hyderabad to participate in the IIMUN (Indian International Model United Nations) held from May 31 to June 2, 2013. The team was headed by Limabenla Jamir, the Director and pioneer of NEIMUN (North East India Model United Nations), who also participated in the convention, serving in the executive board as Co-Chair, UN General Assembly. This team of eight, namely Christine Longchari, Kaka Lotha, Bendang Longchar, Tolivi Sumi, Neikuonuo Solo, Imkumsungla Longchar, Keyi Ndang and Likokba Sangtam was recruited and trained by NEIMUN in Kohima and sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Resources and Sports, Govt. of Nagaland before being sent off to take part in the prestigious IIMUN. Likokba Sangtam brought laurels to the Naga community by winning an honorable mention award for representing the country of Djibouti in OIC (Organization of Islamic Conference) in this IIMUN conference.
IIMUN is Asia's largest MUN. In its inaugural session, it was India's Largest Youth Conference with 1078 delegates taking part at the World Trade Center, Mumbai. IIMUN is also the only Indian team to be invited to the United Nations General Assembly for a Model United Nations Workshop held in August 2012. MUN is a simulation of the different United Nations organs and other forums of international relations and asks young people to take on the role of world leaders.
Meanwhile, NEIMUN is a non-profit educational foundation. The objective of NEIMUN is to encourage students on active participation and study of international organizations and global issues, in hope to advance the interest of international education through promotion of Model United Nations conferences, promoting interaction and dialogue between young people as they try to find enduring solutions to global challenges. NEIMUN has scheduled to send another delegation to participate in Harvard MUN India in August 2013.
