Nagaland aspires for ‘making elections  inclusive, accessible and participative’

Kohima, January 25 (MExN): The 12th National Voters’ Day was celebrated across the Nagaland state with the theme ‘Making elections inclusive, accessible and participative’ on January 25. The National Voters’ Day is observed with an aim to raise awareness, maximize enrolment of new voters, encourage and facilitate the young voters to participate in electoral process, stated a DIPR report. 

Kohima: In Kohima, V Shashank Shekhar IAS, Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland expressed hope that every citizen will make efforts to strengthen the electoral process. Gregory Thejawelie, DC, Kohima welcomed the HoDs, AHoDs, CSOs and political parties who attended the programme. Speeches were delivered by State SVEEP Icon, Kawimaningsiliu, Miss Nagaland and State SVEEP Icon for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), Ashe H Kiba. Special number was presented by Merry Jamir and presentations of awards (Kohima district) for Best Booth Level Officer and Online Poster with Slogan Writing competition were part of the programme. Voters’ Pledge was administered by the CEO, Nagaland.

Mokokchung: In Mokokchung, the programme was held at the Conference Hall of ADC (Planning), where video footage of Chief Election Commissioner’s speech was screened, which was followed by presentation of Best BLO Award and felicitation of Online Essay Competition Winners and newly elected voters. Administration of Voters’ Pledge was carried out by DC & District Election Officer, Mokokchung, Limawapang Jamir.

Longleng: In Longleng, the day was observed at DC’s Conference Hall. DC & DEO, Longleng, M Shayung Phom urged the gathering to take a strong resolution with commitment and take right decision on this day to elect qualified and efficient leaders and contribute in the nation building through their franchise. ADC & Electoral Registration Officer, Longleng, D Robin lauded the best BLOs for their dedication and devotion in their additional assignment and effort to have a genuine electoral roll. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and administering of pledge led by the chairperson Trongdiba T Sangtam, SDO (C), Longleng.

Tuensang: In Tuensang, the programme was held at Town Hall Tuensang in collaboration with Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Tuensang. Kumar Ramnikant, DC and DEO Tuensang spoke on the relevance of the theme, appreciating the idea of including people aged 18 and above as genuine voters. Saotola, District SVEEP Icon delivered a short speech. The prize distribution for various competitions was held. NVD pledge was hosted by Rohit Singh, SDO (C), welcome note was addressed by Renben Mozhui, Assistant Election Officer Tuensang, while Songmao M, Women Welfare Officer DLC for Women (BBBP) and NVD Message from ECI was also displayed at the function.

Kiphire: In Kiphire, the programme was held at the DC’s Conference Hall, Kiphire with DC & DEO, T Wati Aier as special guest. Felicitation for Best BLOs and winners of photo online competition, PwDs and Senior Citizens were awarded certificates and cash prizes. The special guest also administered Voters’ Pledge. ADC & ERO, Rahul Mali IAS delivered the keynote address and group song was presented by Atsaba & friends. It was chaired by AEO, Olivi Thurr and attended by District Administration, PwDs, Senior Citizens, GBs, womenfolk.

Noklak: District Election Office Noklak organised the programme at DC’s Conference Hall Noklak. DC & District Election Officer, Noklak, Hiazu Meru urged upon the gathering and the district people to create awareness and spread message to those who have reached the age of 18 years to enroll in the electoral roll. SDO (Civil) & ERO Noklak in his welcome address congratulated all the newly enrolled voters in the district. The programme was chaired by EAC (P), Merishan Ezung.

Wokha: The District Administration Wokha and District Election Office, Wokha organised the function at DC Conference Hall, Wokha. District SVEEP Icon, Wokha, Lothunglo Z Ezung opined that involvement of youth in Nagaland politics is vital for new breed of leaders with new vision and perspectives who can change the course of the future for the younger generation and for the betterment of the society. ADC, Wokha, Lankonsen Tsanglao felicitated the newly enrolled voters, and handed over the Best BLOs Award. The programme was chaired by AEO, Wokha, Aketo Shohe while vote of thanks was delivered by HA Election Office, Wokha.


    
Phek: In Phek, the programme was held at Phek DC conference hall with Phek DC & District Election Officer Razouvolie Dozo as guest of honour congratulating the new members for enrolling themselves, called upon them to play active role in this venture. The programme was chaired by Mechietsho Koza, EAC & AEO I/C, Phek. Significance of NVD was delivered by Phuleshe K Yepthomi, NCS, ADC HQ & ERO, Phek. Speech on behalf of newly enrolled voters was given by Muguhu Hoshi. Special song was presented by Amos Aier and friends. Distribution of EPIC/Badges to newly enrolled voters. Administration of NVD pledge was also done at the meeting.
