Nagaland begins Census training push as digital count nears

•    Census of India 2027 to be fully digital and paperless
•    House Listing Operation begins July 1 as first phase

Kohima/ Kiphire, April 22  (MExN): Nagaland has begun district-level preparations for the first phase of the Census of India 2027, with training programmes underway in Kohima and Kiphire to prepare officials for the upcoming nationwide exercise.

A two-day training programme commenced on April 22 at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Kohima, and will continue till April 23. Administrative officers from Kohima and Tseminyu districts are participating in the programme organised by the Directorate of Census Operations, Nagaland.

Director of Census Operations, Nagaland, Dr Zasikuolie Chusi said the census, conducted every ten years since 1881, remains a vital national exercise.

He informed that Census of India 2027 will be fully digital and paperless, with all processes managed through dedicated applications. The first phase, the House Listing Operation, is scheduled to begin from July 1, 2026.

He stressed the need for accurate enumeration, particularly of vacant households, and urged officers to discharge their duties diligently.

Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer, Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, encouraged participants to approach the assignment with commitment, noting that field realities often present challenges beyond classroom training.

Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer, Tseminyu, Japheth Woch, described census work as rigorous and urged officers to develop a problem-solving mindset for field-level issues.

The training covered the roles of census functionaries, legal provisions, fund management, publicity activities, and the Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS), along with house listing operations, mapping, self-enumeration, and register preparation.

Meanwhile, in Kiphire, the first phase of district-level training for Census of India 2027 was conducted from April 20 to 22 at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall.

Deputy Commissioner Temsuwati Longkumer urged officers to carry out their duties sincerely for the successful conduct of the census. The training covered CMMS operations, responsibilities of officials, house listing, population enumeration, mapping, and other operational procedures.

Officials and staff from the Deputy Commissioner’s office, along with personnel from Pungro and Seyochung sub-divisions, attended the programme.
