Nagaland Chief Minister launches Digital School Safety Course

KOHIMA, DECEMBER 6 (MExN): Marking a significant stride in educational safety, Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio inaugurated an innovative digital School Safety course. This pivotal initiative, a collaborative effort between the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), the Department of School Education (DSE), and NagaEd, was launched at the Hornbill Festival, aligning with Nagaland Statehood Day.

A press statement issued by Commissioner & Secretary Lhouchalie Viya informed that the course aims to digitise and implement the NSDMA's School Safety Policy across the state. It targets to certify 10,000 teachers across the state, ensuring widespread, impactful dissemination of crucial safety knowledge.

The NSDMA and DSE have joined forces with NagaEd to revolutionise school safety in Nagaland. By leveraging digital education, this initiative addresses the pressing need for accessible, comprehensive safety training for educators in the state's diverse and remote locations, the press statement said.

This digital course is designed to simplify the comprehensive guidelines outlined in the School Safety Policy, making them easily understandable and actionable for schools and teachers across Nagaland. It is a crucial step in creating a safer educational environment, addressing various safety challenges such as natural disasters, emergencies, and health crises, the press release stated.

It stated that this pioneering initiative is in compliance to the Supreme Court directives and NSDMA’s objective to create a Safer Generation Next by imparting training to the teachers both in government and private schools on school safety policy, which represents a significant advancement in fostering risk resilience in schools throughout Nagaland.

This groundbreaking programme is more than just a training course-it’s a commitment to safeguarding the future of our students, educators, and communities in the event of disaster, it stated adding that the course aims not only to educate but also to build a culture of preparedness and responsiveness within the educational community.
