While refusing to give a ‘definite’ response on the acceptance of letters of support extended to form an opposition-less government, Leader of the House and Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said it welcomes the support extended to his government by NPF and all parties for graciously extending the support.
“In the interest of our people the State, for an early solution to the Naga political issue and various other issues confronting the State, we require support, cooperation and assistance of each and every member of all political parties” stated Rio.
“I heartily accept the support and I am sure that the coming together with all political parties in support will help the State in reaching even higher levels of development, progress and for early solution of Naga political issue which is what we aspire and look forward to,” he further stated.
While appreciating the members for their remarks on various developmental activities taken by the government, Rio commented “as people’s Government, we need to be always transparent and share with them, who in fact are the biggest stakeholders in whatever we do and keep bringing to their notice and knowledge, so that they are fully aware of what the Government is doing and intends to take up in future also.”
In response to NPF MLA Küzholüzo Nienü who pointed on the need to highlight the policies, programmes and vision plans for every sector, Rio stated that every department and sector has a plan for the coming years where every attempt is being made to follow and do things in the interest of the public and for inclusive development.
On the Mon Medical College, the Chief Minister informed that primary works have started, and major works will be carried out from 2023-24.
Rio also said that depending on the need, and in public interest, new road projects will continue to be taken up in the coming years, under the various schemes and programmes of State and Central Governments. This was in response to MLA Imkong L Imchen’s question in the house.
Appreciating the members of the House for their participation in proceedings, Rio viewed that the deliberations have mostly been positive and fruitful and will go a long way in improving the delivery mechanisms of the government departments. He also assured that all constructive suggestions will be followed up with sincerity.
In the end, Rio requested NPF MLAs Kuzholuzo Nienu and Achumbemo Kikon to withdraw the proposal for amendments to be made in the Governor’s address made on March 21 for adoption.
To this, Kikon accepted to withdraw the same “with the belief on the assurance” given by the Chief Minister, although adding that some of the responses by the Leader of the House were not satisfactory. Subsequently, the House adopted the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address.
