Nagaland: ‘Democracy lies in the hand of its people’

Secretary for Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Government of Nagaland, Anthony Ngullie had said, “The Constitution is not just a written document but a cornerstone of democracy.”

Speaking at the Constitution Day or Samvidhan Diwas Padyatra, jointly organised by Nerhu Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), Nagaland and JNV Yakukie, Kohima at JNV Yakukie, Kohima on November 26, he expounded the historical significance of the day and called for renewal in commitment towards our duties and responsibilities as citizens. 

Stating that democracy lies in the hand of its people, Ngullie said, “Constitution Day is not just a celebration of historical moment but a time to remind ourselves of our rights and duties as citizens of the nation.” 

He said, “Let this day remind that power of democracy lies in the hand of its people.”

John Makhabo, State Director of NYKS delivered a brief note of Dr BR Ambedkar. Speaking about how the Constitution was adopted, he articulated that Ambedkar is the architect of the Constitution who was the chairmen of the drafting. Heading such a committee, Mokhabo said Ambedkar handled the questions raised on it and made changes as per suggestions and acknowledged luminaries for giving to the nation a person with vast knowledge to draft our Constitution to bring out a workable, flexible and strong Constitution to be good both in peace and war times. 

S Atheni, PGT highlighted on fundamental rights, duties and responsibilities of citizens. 

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Kevisano Neihu, NYKS and Mahesh Prasad, Principal, JNV proposed welcome address. Megolhou Dolie, Additional Director, Department of Youth Resources gave the vote of thanks. JNV students presented special song and dance.

A rally was undertaken from Keyakie to Administrative Training Institute (ATI) by the participants.
