Nagaland: District Legal Services Authorities observe women’s day

Dimapur, March 8 (MExN): The District Legal Services Authorities under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) observed International Women's Day at respective districts. 

Mokokchung DLSA celebrated the day with the staff nurses of Imkongliba District Memorial Hospital under Medical Superintendent, Mokokchung. The team visited the nurses on duty and acknowledged their services rendered towards the society. The Panel Lawyers apprised on the significance of the day and on the rights of women. Around 60 staff nurses and student nurses were present during the visitation. Project Assistant, Mapujungla Pongen while speaking at a programme organized by Watsu Mungdang, Mokokchung dwelled on rights of women. 

Wokha DLSA observed the day in collaboration with District Administration, DLCW-MSK, Sakhi- One Stop Centre with women representatives from each ward, anganwadi/ASHA workers from Wokha area, Elumyo, Humtso Pongitong and neighbouring villages and Nyiro range covering 7 villages. Lankonsen Tsanglao, ADC, Wokha delivered keynote address, Renbemo Tungoe, APP Wokha was the theme speaker. Shanchobeni P Lotha, Panel Lawyer highlighted various social, health welfare schemes and legal services to women. 

Dimapur DLSA organised legal awareness programme with the College of Nursing, Christian Institute of Health Sciences & Research. Seyielenuo Mezhü, Secretary, Dimapur DLSA spoke on the provisions for women enshrined in the Constitution of India. Sentimenla, Panel Lawyer spoke on Women's right. Panel Lawyer, Zuchumpeni Ngullie spoke on the Domestic Violence Act. A brief interaction session was also held. Around 300 students including the principal and staff of the college of nursing attended the programme.

Kiphire DLSA observed women’s day at DC Conference hall. CJM cum Secretary, Phuleto Yeptho gave the welcome address. Bendangwati Sangtam, Retainer Lawyer, DLSA Kiphire spoke on the theme and Chubamongla, NCS, EAC Kiphire shared on celebration women's day, while POCSO Act was highlighted by Michael Aye, APP Kiphire. Women Union under Akehta Sangtamlarü Thsingmüjang, Tikhir Women Union Kiphire, and Tikhir Women Association attended the programme.

Phek DLSA celebrated the day at Phek Town Council Hall. JMFC cum Secretary, Cheliam Khiamniungan, NJS JMFC cum Secretary, PDLSA sharing on significance of the day encouraged participants present to be an example for their daughters and young women to go forward and take action for equality to create a better future and gender- neutral society. Shetalu Medeo, President, PAMA and Neichulou Tsuzuh President, PTWWS delivered a short speech. Resource person Keneinuo Swuro, Project Assistant, PDLSA spoke on Social Welfare Schemes and Domestic Violence Act 2005 followed by Interactive session. More than 70 beneficiaries attended the programme.

Zunheboto DLSA celebrated the day at District Court Complex. Resource person, Wokono Yhoshü, Secretary ZDLSA highlighted the constitutional provisions for protection for women. Resource person Inolito K Sumi, Panel Lawyer, ZDLSA, spoke on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. Also Gideon International Ministry of Zunheboto Unit felicitated lady officers of District Court, Zunheboto. Altogether 36 people attended the programme.

Tuensang DLSA observed the day at Conference Hall, District Hospital Tuensang. Soteth Anar, Project Assistant spoke on the theme ‘gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow’ and legal aid services. Herola, Panel Lawyer shared on women rights and law. The programme was attended by nurses, staff and nurse trainee at District Hospital Tuensang.

Peren DLSA observed the day at Heningkunglwa Village Council Hall in collaboration with District Administration, DLCW-MSK, BBBP & Sakhi - One Stop Centre. Retainer Lawyer, Asungbe N Hau and Panel Lawyer, Hiekha Indeu Hiakha spoke on gender equality and legal provisions for maintenance. Kevethito Rose, EAC, Peren shared on the significance of women's day. Special song was presented by Heningkunglwa Women and extempore speech competition was also conducted.

Mon DLSA celebrated the day with Police Baptist Church, Mon Women Society. Tucuno Vamuzo, NJS, District and Session Judge cum Chairman DLSA, Mon delivered keynote address. N Mannon, Panel Lawyer cum Project Assistant DLSA, Mon shared that “gender inequality coupled with climate changes is one of the greatest challenge of our time.” M Moba, Retainer Lawyer emphasised on women's rights. 

Longleng DLSA celebrated the day at Yongshei Baptist church, Yongshei village with the villages of Yongshei and Yungja Council chairman and representative, church members and women participants. Project Assistant, P Monyei Phom spoke on the legal rights of women and domestic violence. Holika Sukhalu, (NJS) CJM cum secretary delivered keynote address, Panel Lawyer, Panglang Y Phom spoke on social issues relating to women and encouraged to collectively work for the cause of women. There were 150 participants.

Kohima DLSA observed the day in collaboration with Konyak Baptist Church Kohima at Konyak Baptist Church Midland, Kohima. Chairman Kohima DLSA and Principal District and sessions Judge Kohima, Y Longkumer briefed on rights and provisions laid down under the constitution of India for women and mentioned that gender equality is a fundamental rights. Around 35 church members attended the programme. 
Kohima DLSA was also invited by the Modern College for the woman's day program. Mhechiete U Kenye, Panel Lawyer and Nagali Shohe, Panel Lawyer spoke during the event, stated a press release issued by NSLSA, Public Relations Assistant.
