DIMAPUR, JANUARY 27 (MExN): More organizations came out today declaring their intention to stop corrupt practices like vote buying in the upcoming Nagaland Assembly polls.
The Poilwa Namdizang Village Council 7-Peren Assembly Constituency has resolved to “uphold the true democratic process of elections as enshrined in the Constitution of India,” and ensure that citizens within its jurisdiction abstain trading of votes for cash or kind.
The council further prohibited supply of intoxication and other substance by candidates or their agents during election. A press release from the council said that it would extend full co-operation to the district administration, security personnel and other government machineries to enable the smooth conduct of election.
“This resolution was made keeping the overall development of the village in mind and also availing maximum benefits from all welfare schemes being implemented by the government,” it added.
The Ato Area Youth Front meanwhile issued a statement standing against “corruption in terms of all that is offered during the selection of its leader.” A press release from the front said that the culture of buying and selling votes for money has been practiced for long in the state of Nagaland by many politicians, leaders, student bodies and civil societies.
“We understood that this was all because of the situation that Nagaland was in, where we were left with no option, but the young generation needs real solutions based on the ground reality. We are no longer fools or idiots to follow the same path towards corruption,” it affirmed.
It informed the people in the area they need real development and change, not bribes. “The decision was taken to inform and educate the youth and AAYF will go for round inspections and checks to ensure a clean election, for which the front hopes for a positive response from both the public and candidates,” it stated.
