Nagaland: Entrepreneurship can reduce poverty and inequality

Chümoukedima, March 15 (MExN): North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), held the inaugural programme on Entrepreneurship Skill Development Programme at Peace Centre, Chümoukedima on March 14. The programme aims to build a cadre of entrepreneurs, inculcate the spirit of entrepreneurship among social workers to further enhance employability skills.

Speaking on ‘Entrepreneurship and its relevance in 21st century’ Fr Robin Thomas, Assistant Professor stated that entrepreneurship can reduce poverty and inequality. He said that Progressive improvements in sustainable livelihoods are a pressing challenge face at a global level. He also mentioned that there are many flourishing social entrepreneurship and emerging start-ups to help build the gap in the society. There are five characteristics of entrepreneurial mind-set that he insisted: positive mental attitude, creative & innovative mindset, persuasive communication ability, intrinsic motivation drive, persistence and an ability to learn from failure. 

H Shongmeth Konyak, lead a short meditation on skilling, followed by Dr Lily Sangpui, (Asst Professor, NEISSR) felicitated the resource persons. A short speech was delivered by PA Thomas, Senior trainer of ESDP, Nagaland on the introduction to Entrepreneurship Skill Development Programme (ESDP) training the trainers. 

The students of NEISSR MSW-II semester, ventured for rural camp to two different villages that is Yezami and Rotomi village for 10 days which is under Zunheboto District.
