Calls on Nagaland Red Cross Society members to continue rendering humanitarian services
Kohima, September 6 (MExN): The 32nd Annual General Meeting of the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch (IRCSN) was marked with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp held at the Red Cross Complex, Kohima on September 6.
According to a DIPR report, the Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya who is also the President of the Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland (IRCSN), in his Presidential address, called upon the members of the IRCSN to follow the Seven Principles of Red Cross Society and apprised them that during these times, when our state is being hit with natural calamities and tragedies, it is the right time for the members to motivate themselves and reach out to the affected people by conducting motivational camps, train the people in first aid, rescue operation, setting up health camps, and putting in more efforts to see to the need of the state.
The Governor while stressing on the overall functioning of the IRCSN said that the members need to be more motivated and enroll more members to the society since there are only three IRCS active districts in the state and the need of IRCS service was most needed during such disasters.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Nagaland and Vice President IRCSN, Neiphiu Rio in his address said the Nagaland Red Cross Society has been actively continuing its works in the service of humanity. With the continuing membership drives, extending help to the needy, conducting blood donation camps, motivation campaigns, first-aid trainings and workshops, Indian Red Cross Nagaland chapter has proved that they are second to none when it comes to serving the people. As always, the Society has been very prompt in responding to calamities and tragedies in various parts of the State, and even outside the State, thereby, bringing much relief to those in need, and keeping alive the noble ideals and objectives of the Red Cross Society.
Noting that, the activities of Red Cross has expanded in the last few years, there is also a need to promote Junior Red Cross in more and more schools across the State to train the young people in first aid and basic humanitarian services, involvement of youth enables them to imbibe the spirit of understanding and acceptance of one's civic responsibilities towards fellow human beings, preparing them to become better citizens of tomorrow. In order to ensure that Red Cross remains vibrant and active, one need to reach out to more people, in particular to the youth and people in the remote areas. This can be done by expanding the activities and making our presence felt for the needy and the distressed, he said.
The Society over the years has organized many blood donation camps, first- aid trainings, free medical camps, trainings. The First Medical Responder (FMR) Trainings, conducted in School of Nursing, Dimapur, Kohima & Mokokchung and at CIHSR, Dimapur, has greatly benefited people and trained them in being able to save lives, he also called upon the Deputy Commissioners present to ensure that they take up activities in line with the guiding principles of Red Cross.
He advocated the need to be proactive with regard to disaster management, and the role of Red Cross can be there not only for immediate relief during disasters but also in Disaster Mitigation and Rehabilitation.
Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Member, IRCSN, Helena Yepthomi, Dr. Ruokuovilie invoked God’s blessings, Dr. R. Rose Chakhesang proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was chaired by Abeni TCK, IRCSN and a song was performed by Grace Higher Secondary School, Kohima.
The Governor later had an interactive session with members of the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch.
