Nagaland government assures action against guilty personnel

Dimapur, September 21 (MExN): The Government of Nagaland continues to make humble appeals to the Assam government and the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) to lift the economic blockade the AASU called against Nagaland. In another such appeal, the Chief Secretary of Nagaland Lalthara, IAS, said the state government has instituted an inquiry into the alleged excesses committed by the ‘B’ Company of the 12 NAP (IR) against agitating Assam students near Golaghat on the NH 39 on September 16th of September 2010.

The Nagaland Cabinet has assured stringent action against the police personnel found guilty and for this, the AASU is appealed to consider lifting the blockade.

“The state Cabinet of Nagaland in its special meeting held on the 21st of September, 2010, expressed its regret on the incident, whereby the ‘B’ Company of the 12 NAP (IR) Bn had allegedly committed certain excess while dealing with the agitating students of Assam at Murphuloni Tin Ali, near Golaghat on the NH 39 on the 16th of September 2010,” an official note from Lalthara said.

“It further decided that stringent actions would be taken against any one found guilty of excesses and behavior unbecoming of armed uniformed police personnel. For this, a high level Inquiry Committee has already been appointed on the 18th of September 2010 to inquire into incident and to submit its report within 15 (Fifteen) days of the issue of the order.”

For these reasons, the chief secretary said, the Cabinet appeals to the All Assam Students’ Union to life the economic blockade against Nagaland. “This appeal has been made in the interest of maintaining the age old good neighborly relations between the people of Assam and Nagaland,” the note added.
