The Governor of Nagaland PB Acharya has mooted the idea of constructing a memorial of late Indian freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose in Kohima. Giving credence to the argument forwarded by certain sections that Bose stayed briefly in Nagaland during the Second World War, he said that the “construction of a memorial for Subash Chandra Bose at Kohima has also been discussed at the Government level.” According to the Governor, the construction would instill “patriotism” among the people and has a potential for attracting tourist from all over India. “Not only one family brought freedom to India,” he noted highlighting the role played by Bose in the freedom struggle. Acharya also noted that apart from the present Kohima War Cemetery, the memorial dedicated to soldiers of the 2nd British Division of the Allied Forces who died in the Second World War at Kohima, a memorial should also be built for Japanese soldiers. This, he contended, will attract Japanese tourists, who haveshown interest over the years.
