Dimapur, August 20 (MExN): The Governor of Nagaland PB Acharya hosted an interacting with the editors of vernacular papers in the Police Guest House, Chümoukedima on August 20.
During the interaction, the Governor enquired on how the vernacular papers are dispatched to the readers and also reminded on the importance of daily papers reaching on time. He also encouraged them to approach him if needs arises and assured them to look into their problems.
On the suggestion for giving recognition to deserving media personnel during National programmes, the Governor felt that it was a genuine suggestion to be considered favourably, if routed through proper channel with relevant documents.
The DPRO Dimapur in a report said reiterating that all are equal in a democracy, irrespective of community or the size of population, Acharya observed that newspapers as the fourth estate could play a wonderful role in changing the mindset of the society.
Emphasising on the importance of local dialect, Acharya said that eight Universities including three from his hometown have started teaching tribal dialect after he took over as Governor.
Acharya also noted that apart from the subjects, Universities must focus to teach on how to create wealth out of the available natural resources. “Create wealth and strengthen Nagaland, and this can only be done if the Universities stand up,” Acharya maintained and appealed to the Universities to introduce skill education. He also assured to help outright anyone willing to become an entrepreneur in boosting the state's economy.
The Governor has also informed that on his appeal, the Government of Nagaland has extended Rs.20 lakh as flood relief to Kodagu in Karnataka, the home state of the Governor of Nagaland. The Governor also gave a relief of Rs. 5 lakh on his own behalf and said that the donated money would be handed over to the right agency.
