DIMAPUR, MARCH 27 (MExN): The stage is set for the grand finale of the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) silver jubilee celebrations here at NEZCC headquarters on April 1, which will be attended by Nagaland governor and NEZCC chairman, Dr. Ashwani Kumar, as chief host and chief minister Neiphiu Rio as chief guest.
Major highlights of the 3-day event include choreographed folk dance show directed by renowned creative personality Padmashre Ratan Thiyam, choral singing and crafts mela along with ethnic food stalls.
On Wednesday afternoon, DC Dimapur, N Hushili Sema inaugurated the crafts mela and ethnic food stalls. After inspecting the 16 crafts stalls (two each from all eight north-eastern states including Sikkim) and 4 food stalls, the DC said that despite lack of facilities and infrastructure, NE crafts persons have been able to bring improvisation and innovation into the crafts. She urged the crafts persons to continuously improvise and upgrade their skills so that their craft products would have value in the market. Hushili also called upon the participants from the eight NE states to share and exchange ideas and skills for their common benefit.
NEZCC director said that as part of the year-long silver jubilee celebrations, NEZCC has been able to successfully conduct yatras in all NE states.
The main events and dates of the celebrations are crafts mela and food stalls (March 27-31), choral singing by choirs from Nagaland, Meghalaya and Mizoram (March 31) and closing function on April 1 to be graced by Nagaland governor and chief minister as host and chief guest respectively.
