A statewide interactive Digital Smart Board for Smart Classrooms in government colleges, the first of its kind in the North East, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio at Kohima Science College, Jotsoma on March 4.

 

Rio said that Digital Smart Boards and Smart Classrooms are a step in the right direction that will make learning more interactive and engaging.

 

“The use of simple tools can make learning joyful and interesting and teachers will be able to deliver technology enable dynamic and interactive lessons in the classroom,” the CM stated. “It makes review or revision of lessons more convenient. It is also easier for the teachers to structure lessons,” he added. He further said that these tools would allow differently abled students to learn better.

 

Moreover, the CM informed that the use of Smart Boards and Smart classrooms will result in savings on teaching costs and help cut down expenditure on teaching materials and aids.

 

“Digital classroom solutions also have the potential of enabling live, distance communication learning and education. It can also be used for live webinars and lectures,” he said.

 

Rio called upon the teaching community and the students to make full use of this facility so that it can spread to the rest of the state as well.

 

The CM meanwhile appreciated the Higher and Technical Education Minister, Temjen Imna Along, the H&TE Department and all associated partners for initiatives to make technology enabled education a reality.

 

The H&TE Minister expressed optimism that the provided facility will not be a mere showpiece, but produce tangible results.

 

The function was chaired by Nungsangmenla Imchen, Joint Secretary, Higher and Technical Education, Nagaland. Welcome address was delivered by Dr Apeni Lotha, Additional Director & HoD, while vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Lily Sema, principal of Kohima Science College, Jotsoma.
