KOHIMA, AUGUST 13 (MExN): Nagaland will join the rest of the country in observing the 80th Independence Day on August 15, with the state-level celebration scheduled at the Nagaland Secretariat Plaza here from 9 a.m.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will hoist the National Flag and receive the Rashtriya Salute during the state-level function. The programme will also feature a Guard of Honour by the State Police, paramilitary forces, Home Guards, ex-servicemen and NCC, among others.
In the districts and sub-divisions, Deputy Chief Ministers, Ministers, Advisors and respective Additional Deputy Commissioners/Sub-Divisional Officers will hoist the National Flag and take the Rashtriya Salute.
According to the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), the celebrations will follow the sequence prescribed by the Ministry of Home Affairs for this year’s Independence Day programmes.
At the state-level function, Vande Mataram will be sung on the arrival of the Chief Minister, followed by the hoisting of the National Flag and the National Anthem. After the Chief Minister’s address, Vande Mataram will be sung again, followed by the National Anthem. A march past and cultural and entertainment programmes will follow.
The same sequence for Vande Mataram and the National Anthem will be followed at district and sub-divisional celebrations.
The DIPR said that when Vande Mataram is sung, members of the audience are required to stand to attention, as is done during the National Anthem.
The Home Department has invited citizens to participate in the Independence Day celebrations at the state capital and in their respective districts and sub-divisions.
The state-level function in Kohima will also be streamed live on the official YouTube channel of DIPR Nagaland.
