Nagaland has 52 active COVID-19 cases, sees decline in positivity rate

Dimapur, January 30 (MExN): Nagaland registered two new COVID-19 cases in Kohima on Saturday while two other patients who were previously tested positive for the virus have now recovered in Mokokchung.

This takes the states cumulative tally of positive cases to 10,090 with 11,806 recovered cases and 52 active cases, as of 3:00pm, January 30. The number of deaths remains at 78 while 10 deaths have been categorized as ‘not COVID related.’

As per data issued by the state Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, 42 of the active cases were asymptomatic, eight were categorized as ‘mild’ and two were ‘moderate on oxygen.’

In regard to district-wise distribution of active COVID-19 cases, Dimapur leads with 31 cases, followed by Kohima with 13, Mokokchung three, Peren and Tuensang have two each while Kiphire, Longleng, Wokha, Phek, Mon and Zunheboto have zero active cases.

Decline in positivity rate
The COVID-19 positivity rate in Nagaland has declined to 3.64 per cent in January from 10 per cent in December, according to the weekly bulletin from the Department of Health and Family Welfare (DoHFW).

In the past week starting January 23 to January 29, the state recorded 16 confirmed cases with a positivity rate of 2 per cent, out of 852 samples that were tested. 

As per the weekly bulletin, nine out of the 16 cases were from traced contacts, three each from armed forces and travellers, and one from a frontline worker. Moreover, there has been 78 COVID related deaths so far, with 85% of the cases due to co-morbidities. Most common co-morbidities are diabetes and hypertension, it informed.

The mortality rate in Nagaland is at 0.65 per cent as compared to the national average of 1.44 per cent, it added.

Citing data from the Universal Immunization Programme, DoHFW, the report stated that 5,773 healthcare workers from both private and public hospitals have received vaccination till date and no adverse events were reported which needed medical management. It reminded that the COVID-19 vaccination days are scheduled for Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but “due to Polio NID in the coming days, COVID-19 vaccination will be followed after the Polio immunisation activity.”
