The top twenty state level schools under Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) 2025- 26 have been felicitated today in Kohima by Directorate of School Education, Govt of Nagaland in collaboration with Samagra Shiksha Nagaland.
Those schools were honoured in recognition of their excellence in hygiene and sanitation
Five schools from Nagaland have also been nominated for national level.
Handing over the certificates to the concerned schools, Mhathung Tungoe, secretary, Department of School Education & SCERT, Govt of Nagaland, said that SHVR 2025-26 was launched on 29th July 2025 by the Union Education Minister on the occasion of the celebration of the 5th year of NEP 2020 at Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam (ABSS) 2025 at New Delhi.
SHVR 2025-26 initiative is a revitalised, expanded and universal version of the earlier “Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar (SVP). This initiative promotes behavioural transformation, environmental sustainability and climate resilience in school education through a structured institutional parameter aligned with the NEP 2020 and India's vision for a clean, green and inclusive school environment.
Tungoe said that SHVR 2025-26 is designed as a mandatory programme for all schools having UDISE code across the country, including Government, Government aided, private, residential, tribal, minority, centrally run schools (i.e KVS, NVS) and CBSE affiliated schools.
This programme empowers schools to self-assess and improve across 6 key categories-water, toilet, hand-washing with soap, operation and maintenance, behaviour change & capacity building and Mission life activities (or the Eco club), he said.
Schools participated in the SHVR from 4th August-30th September using either the mobile app or web portal as per their convenience.
Out 2553 schools participated in SHVR 2025-26, 51 schools qualified for the District Level and 20 schools qualified for the State Level.
Instil habits of hygiene, sanitation, environmental consciousness
Shashant Pratap Singh, Principal Director, School Education, Govt of Nagaland said that cleanliness and environmental responsibility have been strongly emphasized by the central government as foundational elements of nation building.
“Through flagship initiatives such as Swachh Bharat Mission and Swachh Vidlaya, schools have been identified as the most effective platforms of instilling lifelong habits of hygiene, sanitation and environmental consciousness,” Singh said.
He urged upon the school heads and teachers to inculcate the values of cleanliness and discipline among students, ensuring that these practiced are followed at all times.
The felicitation programme was compered by Khriesano Nagi, joint director while Riiyosiiyi Khiisoh, additional director proposed vote of thanks.
Top 20 schools, which were felicitated includes; Eliezer Public School (Dimapur), Government Primary School Moalenden (Mokokchung), Government Middle School Ghukiye (Zunheboto), Rainbow Academy (Dimapur), Government Middle School Orangkong (Longleng), Government Primary School Zhadi Kimho (Kohima), Government Middle School Ahthibung (Peren), Assam Rifles Public School (Phek), Government Middle School Senkalemba (Mokokchung), Government Middle School Peren Town (Peren), Kendriya Vidyalaya Tuli (Mokokchung), Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Pfutsero (Phek), DMI St. Joseph Global School (Dimapur), Government High School Yachem (Longleng), Livingstone Foundation International (Dimapur), Langsa Hill school, Lampong Sheanghah (Mon), Don Bosco Higher Secondary School (Kohima), Assam Rifles School, Naginimora (Mon), Woodland School (Zunheboto) and Government High School Midland (Kohima).
Schools nominated for national level: Kendriya Vidyalaya Tuli (Mokokchung), Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Pfutsero (Phek), Assam Rifles School, Naginimora (Mon), DMI St. Joseph Global School (Dimapur) and Government High School Yachem (Longleng).
