Key demands:
• Uphold merit, transparency and justice in all appointments and promotions.
• Reject favouritism, nepotism and backdoor appointments in any form.
• Follow constitutional procedures and safeguard the integrity of public institutions.
Kohima, October 8 (MExN): The Joint Co-ordination Committee (JCC), comprising CANSSEA, FONSESA, NIDA, NSSA, and NF&ASA, on Wednesday issued a strong declaration demanding an end to favouritism, nepotism, and backdoor appointments in the induction of Non-State Civil Service (Non-SCS) officers into the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
The committee said past irregularities in the IAS induction process must not be repeated and called on the Government to uphold meritocracy, transparency, and fairness at every step of the process — the country’s most prestigious civil service.
In its statement, the JCC questioned the Government’s consistency, asking, “When the State Government speaks for meritocracy through NPSC and NSSB, then why nepotism towards backdoor appointees for induction to the country’s most prestigious IAS post?” It warned that any deviation from constitutional norms undermines public trust and demoralises genuine officers who have entered service through fair competition, emphasising the need to restore integrity, fairness, and credibility in the system.
The committee stressed that officers recruited through the constitutionally mandated Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) and Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) must be given their rightful opportunity, without bias or political favour. It called on the Government to ensure that all appointments and promotions are based on merit, transparency, and constitutional procedures, rejecting any form of favouritism or backdoor appointments.
The JCC also appealed to the Naga public, intellectuals, and elected representatives to support the movement, highlighting that thousands of competent young Nagas recruited through NPSC and NSSB should be allowed to enter service on merit.
The declaration comes amid the JCC’s ongoing phase-wise protest against irregularities in IAS induction. Earlier campaigns included black ribbon and poster campaigns, and the committee has announced a three-day pen-down strike across all government offices starting October 14 to press for its demands.
The JCC comprised of Confederation of All Nagaland State Service Employees’ Association (CANSSEA), Federation of Nagaland State Engineering Service Association (FONSESA), Nagaland Finance & Accounts Services Association (NF&ASA), Nagaland In-Service Doctors Association (NIDA), and Nagaland Secretariat Service Association (NSSA).
