Nagaland: ICU beds in 8 districts vacant; 85.56% across State

Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds with or without ventilators were vacant in 8 districts, while 85.56% of the capacity across the state were available, status data on Nagaland COVID -19 Information App launched on June 10 informed. 

The app provides, among others, status of availability of different categories of beds for COVID-19 care across the State.

The districts reporting full vacancy of ICU beds were Kiphere, Longleng, Noklak, Peren, Phek, Tuensang, Wokha, and Zunheboto. Across Nagaland, there were 104 ICU beds with ventilators and out of this 89 were vacant as on June 10. 

In addition, 77 of ICU beds without ventilators were also shown as vacant on Thursday against total capacity of 99.

Meanwhile, the data on the app informed there were 592 oxygen beds available across the State, out of which 496 were vacant. 

Oxygen beds were shown to be fully vacant in two districts – Noklak and Peren, while it was near vacant in Longleng, Kiphere, Phek, Tuensang and Wokha. (See Table) 

There was more vacancy in terms of normal beds with 335 vacancies against the overall capacity of 407. 

The overall data indicated that availability of beds in State capital Kohima and commercial capital Dimapur seem to be increasing, while in the others districts, it was nearing capacity.    

Incidentally, nearly most of the total capacities of beds in the State were in the two districts, which have private hospitals augmenting the health care. 

For instance out of 104 ICU beds with ventilator, 48 were in Dimapur and Kohima.  Out of 496 oxygen beds, 396 or nearly 80% were in the two districts. 

However, most active cases are also reported from the two districts in recent times. On June 10, there were 23350 cases in Nagaland, out of which 3877 were active. 

Clarification: 
In the earlier version of the article, the vacancy position of the beds in the State was given as ‘Occupied’ due to an inadvertent tabulation error based on the data given on the ‘Nagaland COVID -19 Information App.’ Officials at ‘State COVID-19 War Room’ has clarified that the data given on the app is total vacancy against total capacity, and not occupancy. The article has been updated to reflect the corrected data. The inadvertent error is regretted.
