Dimapur, March 16 (MExN): A cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam and its neighbouring areas is expected to bring scattered to fairly widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across Nagaland and the Northeast in the coming days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

In an evening update on Sunday, the IMD noted that Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to witness scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-50 kmph) till March 17.

In the subsequent five days, rainfall activity is expected to be isolated to scattered, it added.

Specifically, for March 17, the national weather agency stated that “thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) and lightning are very likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.”

“Heavy rainfall (≥7 cm) at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh,” it added.

However, it reduced the intensity to “thunderstorms accompanied by lightning” at isolated places on March 18.

Meanwhile, the IMD Meteorological Centre, Kohima, also issued a 'Watch (Be Updated)' alert for all districts of Nagaland except Zunheboto and Kiphire on March 17, and all districts except Longleng on March 18, with expectations of scattered isolated rainfall and gusty winds.
No alerts were issued thereafter.

As per the IMD, the forecast and warning for any day are valid from 8:30 AM of the day until 8:30 AM the following day and the weather conditions may change thereafter.
