Late Imtikumzuk Longkumer was accorded State funeral at Aonglenden, Ungma village, with people from all walks of life in attendance to pay their last tributes and homage to the departed leader before his mortal remains were laid to rest at his native Ungma village cemetery. A host of Nagaland State legislators, top State Government functionaries, NGOs and civil society leaders, political party workers and relatives including his clansmen delivered eulogies at the funeral service that lasted more than three hours.
Longkumer, who was serving as a second time MLA and Advisor to the Government of Nagaland for the departments of Sericulture and Excise, was accorded the State Guard of Honour with police bandobast and 21-gun salute with his casket draped in the Indian national flag.
The proceedings of the funeral were conducted by pastor of Ungma Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Noklen. Family members of Late Imtikumzuk Longkumer delivered their farewell speeches after which eulogies on behalf of the Government of Nagaland were given by Vikho-o Yhoshu, Speaker, NLA followed by Nagaland ministers Metsubo Jamir, Temjen Imna Along Longkumer, Tongpang Ozukum and Advisor Imnatiba which was followed by Department of Excise, Department of Sericulture, NDPP, Ao Senden, Ungma Village Council, Ungma Senso Telongjem, Kohima, Soyim Students’ Union, in-laws and clansmen.
Youth pastor of Ungma Baptist Church also read out the condolence messages to the bereaved family by various eminent personalities and organizations. Meanwhile, the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industry also called for a voluntary shutdown of all the business establishments and shops in Mokokchung town during the State funeral hours as a mark of respect to the departed leader.
