Nagaland logs 31 new COVID-19 cases, 28 recoveries

The number of new COVID-19 cases in Nagaland exceeded the recovery numbers on Friday as 31 new cases were reported against 28 recoveries.

According to an update from the State Health and Family Welfare department, Dimapur registered the highest number of cases with 21 new cases, followed by Kohima with 5, and one each in Peren and Mokokchung.

Out of 666 samples on October 15, 31 returned positive indicating a sample positivity rate of 4.65%; the highest daily positivity rate in the month of October.

Majority of the new cases were from self tests and random tests (26) while the Armed forces/ security personnel accounted for 4 cases and 1 was from traced contacts.

With Friday’s count, the total number of positive cases in the State has increased to 31,547.

Recoveries were also reported from Dimapur (20), Kohima (6) and one each in Kiphire and Phek, taking the recovery tally to 29,625.

There are 228 active COVID-19 cases at present with 41 admitted in COVID hospitals and 175 currently under home isolation. Out of these, 161 are asymptomatic while 48 cases have been categorized as ‘Mild’ and 3 as ‘Moderate on oxygen’.

Under ‘severe cases’, 10 are on oxygen support while 6 have been admitted in the ICU (on ventilator), as per the daily COVID-19 bulletin issued by the department. 

One death was reported in Kohima in the last 24 hours, taking the fatality count to 659. The number of deaths in the ‘not COVID related’ category is at 15.

Meanwhile, 16,862 new infections were reported in India, taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,40,37,592. The active cases declined to 2,03,678, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday. This was the lowest count of active cases in 216 days, as per a PTI report.

With 379 fresh fatalities, the death toll in the country has also climbed to 4,51,814 , according to the data available at 8:00 am on October 15.

According to the Ministry, the active cases comprise 0.60 per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.07 per cent, the highest since March 2020.
