Dimapur, January 16 (MExN): A total of 82 new COVID-19 cases were added to the Nagaland’s tally of infections on Sunday, according to the health department’s latest figures. This was out of 386 test results with a daily sample positivity rate of 21.24 per cent.
According to the state’s Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, the new cases include 72 from Dimapur and 10 from Kohima. They comprise of 43 travelers/returnees, 31 detected through self testing and random sampling, 1 from the armed forces/security personnel, 6 traced contacts, and 1 frontline worker.
The total caseload of the State is now 32,916. Of this, 30,507 people have recovered from the infection including 12 on Sunday and the number of the active COVID-19 cases in the State now stands at 457. With no new fatalities reported, the death toll due to the virus remains at 687.
Of the active cases in the State, 421 are asymptomatic, 35 have mild symptoms, and 1 has moderate symptoms requiring oxygen. There are no COVID-19 patients in the ICU as of now, according to the IDSP’s daily bulletin.
Among the district, Dimapur continues to be the most affected with 381 of the active cases, followed by Kohima with 48, Tuensang with 16, Mokokchung and Peren with 5, and Phek with 2 active cases.
On the national scale, India added 2,71,202 new coronavirus infections, taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,71,22,164, including 7,743 cases of the Omicron variant, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday.
The country saw 1,702 new cases of Omicron variant, the highest in a single day so far, and an increase of 28.17 per cent since Saturday.
According to the PTI News Agency, experts said it is not possible to undertake genome sequencing of each and every sample, but stressed that this wave is largely being driven by Omicron.
The active cases have increased to 15,50,377, the highest in 225 days, while the death toll has climbed to 4,86,066 with 314 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.
The active cases comprise 4.18 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has decreased to 94.51 per cent, the ministry said.
