Dimapur, August 2 (MExN): Tokheho Yepthomi Member of Parliament (MP) Lok Sabha from Nagaland State raised the state matters of urgent public importance in the Parliament House on August 2.
According to a press release from Kuolie Mere, Nagaland House PRO (IPR), New Delhi, the MP said that Nagaland State is facing serious situation due to heavy rain and thunderstorm since April 2018 till date but from July 26 onwards the situation is worsen which has disrupted the normal life in the state.
The state capital along with all districts particularly Phek, Kiphire and Tuensang districts have been cut off due to numerous landslides. It is also reported that six persons have been washed away in floods and many families have been evacuated from the damaged collapsed houses in the landslides areas. Again due to major landslide from one hill top, the River Sidzu in Phek district has clogged the flow of river and an artificial dam has been formed stretching more than 1 km in upstream. The dam may burst any moment which will cause massive damage in the downstream villages and paddy fields in Nagaland and the district of Golaghat and Jorhat of Assam state.
MP Tokheho further apprised the House that the state does not have railways, waterways and airlines within the state for communication and only depending on the road transport services. He requested the Speaker permission and requested the Home Minister to send an officer to Nagaland to visit the affected areas in the state.
