Diphupar Naga Youth Organisation golden jubilee celebration concludes

Lok Sabha MP, Neiphiu Rio, today observed that “negativism” and “division” among Nagas have prevented them from becoming a vibrant and progressive society.
The Lok Sabha MP said the present Naga society, particularly the social media, is suffused with negativism, which has affected even “our attitude and thinking process.”
“Naga society remains thoroughly divided and our very identity and Nagas as a people is at a crossroads.”
Nagas should accept a settlement: Neiphiu Rio
Addressing the second day of the Diphupar Naga Youth Organisation (DNYO) golden jubilee celebration, Rio said it would take many more years for Nagas to be truly called civilized. “If we can change for the better, if we know how to co-exist and accept one another, then Nagas have a bright and vibrant future ahead. But the way things are going on, we are ashamed to call ourselves as a Naga,” he said.
The former chief minister said even in the case of the Naga political struggle, Naga people tend to be negative instead of acknowledging and celebrating the political journey they have sustained thus far.
“Government of India has recognized the Naga struggle as unique and a political issue and we have succeeded to a great extent. The sacrifices, sufferings and humiliations have not gone in vain. Therefore, it is not proper for us to condemn one another but celebrate whatever little we have achieved,” Rio said. Stating that it was his personal view that Nagas should accept a settlement, Rio said inclusion of the six Naga political groups in the present negotiations is another welcome sign.
The Lok Sabha MP who unveiled the golden jubilee monolith and also released the DNYO souvenir. Rio was accompanied by a host of dignitaries including parliamentary secretaries, MLAs and other party officials.
Speaking on the occasion as the Guest of Honour, the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur Limasunep Jamir IPS said that jubilee is a time for reflecting and retrospection. Through such process, we understand and forgive each other and look forward to future, he added.
A special cover was also released by Director, Postal Services Nagaland, RM Patil to commemorate the occasion. Chairman, Diphupar Village Council, Lanutoshi Pongen and vice president Naga Students Federation, Boveio Poukai Duo, also delivered solidarity messages.
Earlier, DNYO president, Vekre Puro, delivered presidential address and Dr. T Lima Jamir, conveyed jubilee greetings. Bohoi K Yeptho chaired the programme.
Other highlights of the programme included cultural presentation by Eastern Naga People Union Diphupar Area, youth Organisation Diphupar, Tangkhul youth Organisation, Diphupar, Rongmei youth Organisation Diphupar, and special numbers by Lotha youth Organisation and Jubilee Choir.
Diphupar doorway to future: MP Kenye
Dimapur, October 21 (MExN): Diphupar is the doorway to the state in the future. Rajya Sabha MP, KG Kenye, said this today while speaking as Chief Guest during the evening of the second day of the Diphupar Naga Youth Organisation golden jubilee celebrations.
Diphupar is fortunate to have the CIHSR, NEZCC, the airport etc, Kenye noted, adding that the Chathe River passes through as well as a national highway.
Remembering the Naga historical legends, Kenye maintained that Nagas were “bold and brave on the warfront.” Hoping that the present generation would learn from the past generation, he hoped that Nagas would become responsible citizens.
“Being a Christian state, we are a people whom God has blessed with so much talent. One just needs to explore what is inside us and look back at what we are capable of,” he said.
