'Banking system very poor in rural areas' Our Correspondent Kohima | January 28 The Nagaland Vision 2030 document stated that the banking system is very poor in the rural areas of the state. “In fact they are non-existent in large pockets of the state. Along with the fast changes envisaged on IT sector, there should be concerted efforts to provide 100 per cent banking coverage of all rural areas within the next ten years,” the Vision document emphasized. It stated that this is imperative with the recent policy of the Government of India for direct benefit transfers in Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS). The banking facilities, apart from facilitating their adaption to a money economy, will also prepare the ground for the introduction of many welfare schemes including the insurance systems and the ‘Social Security Net’ that is envisaged in the Vision, it added.   DC Wokha notifies Wokha, January 28 (MExN): Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, Wezope Kenye has informed that in view of the ensuing ULB elections in the State, carrying of any kind of arms/explosives and lethal weapons has been banned with immediate effect till election process is over. The bike bearing Chasis No. MD2DJKZZRPDO3591 and Engine No. JKUBTD30383 was recovered on January 24 at 4th Mile, Dimapur. Contact – 7085833728/9862764904.   IHRN to spread awareness on Human rights Kohima, January 28 (MExN): The International Human Rights Nagaland (IHRN) board during its State level board meeting held at Hotel Vivor Kohima on January 24 decided that it will work harder to educate people and spread awareness on Human rights from the grass root level itself. State PRO Nagaland Kenny in a press release stated that it also resolved to try and bring talents and skills to the Human Rights campaign to make people understand their rights better. The board decided to strengthen its core and work closely with all sections of society to give opportunities and multidisciplinary internship programme to recognise the right people, offering their ideas and expertise, and a platform.   NCRC Thanksgiving Service on Feb 5 Kohima, January 28 (MExN): The Nagaland Christian Revival Church (NCRC) will be organizing a Thanksgiving Service for the successful conduct of the Revival and Healing Convention. Towards this, the Organising Committee has invited all Churches, families and individuals who have generously contributed their wealth, time, prayer and moral support to be part of the thanksgiving service at CRC, Kohima Village on February 5 at 3:00 pm. Higher Secondary School ground, Kohima.   NNC 71st anniv on February 2 Kohima, January 28 (MExN): The Naga National Council (NNC) is observing the 71st anniversary of NNC formation on February 2, 10:00 am at Peace Hall, Chedema Peace Camp. NNC Joint Secretary Acüyi Vadeo through a press note has invited all Nagas to attend the programme. All Regional Presidents of NNC have been requested to make wide publicity in their respective regions to observe the National Day.   Rengma GBs to boycott ULB elections   Dimapur, January 28 (MExN): In the wake of the unrest emerging out of the proposed Municipal Elections, the Rengma GB Association has expressed strong support on the decision of the Rengma Hoho to Boycott ULB election 2017 “as this has gone against the will of the people”. “The Rengma GBs as the guardian of the Rengma Naga customary law shall not compromise with its right at any cause,” the association stated in a press release. Asserting that it shall continue to uphold Rengma Naga customary and Traditional practices, the Association asked all its members to remain committed to its responsibility as guardians of the Law. Any bona fide member going against the wishes and will of the Community shall invite serious disciplinary action as deem fit according to our customary Law, the association warned.   Governor pays tribute to Rani Gaidinliu Kohima, January 28 (MExN): The birth anniversary of Rani Gaidinliu was observed at Raj Bhavan, Kohima on January 26 with floral tributes. Piyush Goyal, Commissioner & Secretary to Governor gave a brief account of Rani Gaidinliu’s life and activities, a press release informed. Governor PB Acharya along with Raj Bhavan staff paid floral tribute to Gaidinliu. He also recounted their first meeting in 1965, during late P. Shilu Ao’s government, when Gaidiliu was kept under house arrest in Minister’s Hill, Kohima.
