Assam Rifles to hold free medical camp at Dimapur
Dimapur, March 6 (MExN): As a part of its 181st Raising Day, the Assam Rifles today said that it will be organising a free medical camp at DDSC Stadium, Dimapur for the local populace and its veterans on March 9. The Camp will be organised from 9 am to 4 pm, an AR press note informed adding that health screening and free diagnostic tests like sugar, HIV, Malaria, Typhoid, free dental and eye check up will be undertaken during the camp.
In addition to the diagnostic facilities, the camp will also provide the consultation services by specialists such as Gynae, ENT, Eye and Paediatrics, it added. The AR further said free medicines will also be provided based on the tests and specialists opinion to the patients and an alternate medicine a homeopathetic consultation will also be available in the Camp.
The patients and Assam Rifles troops will also have an option to participate in blood donation camp during the medical camp. According to AR, the event is likely to be graced by the presence of Y Patton, the Minister of Home Affairs in Nagaland Government subject to his availability on the said date and short cultural programme and free meals will be provided during the camp. Kohima College 49th parting social
Kohima, March 6 (MExN): Kohima College Kohima will hold its 49th parting social on March 8, 10:30 am at college auditorium. Neihu C. Thur, IAS, Home Commissioner, Nagaland will grace the occasion as the chief guest.
Welcome address will be delivered by Kohima College principal Dr. Watijunshi Jamir. Special appearance will be made by Thenon Konyak, winner of Naga Orpheus Hunt 2015 while annual report will be given by Kohima College Students’ Union general secretary N. Lhepong Konyak.
Asenuo Theruja and Vimeyiekho Vitso will also speak on the occasion. The occasion will also witness presentation of awards for achievers of Kohima College, best class representative, Student of the Year etc.
Rev. Ketouzo Theünuo, Senior Pastor, Cross Wonder Church Kohima, will pray for the outgoing students. The function will be chaired by Imtisenla Longkumer, while vote of thanks will be proposed by Kohima College Students’ Union assistant general secretary Chimongthü.
Awareness created on protection of plant varieties, farmers’ rights
Wokha, March 6 (MExN): With an objective to create awareness on the need for protection of plant varieties and the rights of farmers, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Wokha, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland centre conducted training cum awareness programme at Yanpha village on February 26. The programme titled “Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights” was held in collaboration with the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Authority, Ministry of Agriculture, New Delhi.
Dr. Santosh Kr. Baishya, Programme Coordinator (Senior Scientist & Head), KVK Wokha, highlighted the importance of the programme for the farmers of Wokha district, according to a press release received here. Pointing out that many farmers of the area are involving in cultivation and conservation of many plant varieties, he said it is the high time to identify and protect the rights of the farmers in respect of their contributions made at any time in conserving, improving and making available plant genetic resources for the development of new plant varieties. He further mentioned that through the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Right (PPV&FR) Act, 2001, farmers could register and protect their plant varieties. KVK Wokha will facilitate the farmers for their registration, he added.
Meanwhile, Bendangla Imsong, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Breeding), spoke at length about the nine rights of the farmers under the PPV & FR Act, the procedures and the seed requirement of different crops/ plants variety for registration.
During the programme, which was attended by 41 farmers from Yanpha and Old Ralan, application forms for registration were also issued to the farmers.
Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Mhalo Tungoe, Subject Matter Specialist (Agril. Extension) and vote of thanks was proposed by Megokhono Meyase, Assistant Chief Technical Officer (ACTO), Horticulture.
