
Mokokchung DC directs Longmisa Village Council
MOKOKCHUNG, FEBRUARY 24 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung has informed that the Longmisa Village Council, in the presence of the ADC & RO 24 Angetyongpang A/C on February 23, has undertaken that there is no ‘Consensus Candidate’ in Longmisa village and that Longmisa Village Council/Senso Mungdang or any other traditional bodies exercising traditional authority does not endorse any “consensus candidate”. “Longmisa Village Council/Senso Mungdang or any other traditional bodies exercising traditional authority accept and acknowledge the right of every elector in Longmisa village to participate/contest/vote based on free choice,” the DC’s order stated. It further informed that Longmisa Village Council being a government body will not indulge in any political activities and remain politically neutral at all times. It further directed the Village Council not restrict/debar any political party/candidate to carry out election campaigns and allow each & every political party/candidate without any additional conditions other than those prescribed by the concerned RO/ARO under the relevant section of law.
No proxy voting in any polling station: AKMWP
Kohima, February 24 (MExN): The Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayats (AKMWP) has resolved that no proxy voting will be allowed in any polling station. This was resolved at the consultative meeting held on February 22 at New Market Panchayat Kohima with the panchayat chairman, general secretary, youth president and general secretary of all 19 wards under Kohima municipal for the upcoming state general election scheduled for February 27. The meeting also resolved that no person who is not a voter/resident of the colony/polling station, shall not be allowed to interfere in the election process. It also called for maintaining free and fair election and every individual to exercise their franchise wisely. This was stated in a release issued by AKMWP president Thejao Sekhose and joint secretary James Yanthan.
DC Zbto directs shops to open on polling day
Zunheboto, February 24 (MExN): DC and DEO Zunheboto in an order stated that because of the departure of Polling Officials on Election Duty on February 26, and the requirement of the Polling Team for purchase of essential commodities/ration items/Medicare, etc. It has been directed that bakery/shops/business establishments dealing with food items/fresh vegetables/Medicare will remain open on February 26.
ENPUD appeals for free & fair election
Dimapur, February 24 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation Dimapur (ENPUD) has fervently appealed to all the electorates to strictly maintain free and fair election. Media Cell ENPUD in a press release caution that any individual or groups involve in ‘misuse or selling out the Union name in the pretext of election shall be penalised.’ The union also urged to uphold Clean Election in letter and spirit to accomplish the aspirations of the Nagas.
ICFAI University Nagaland organises talk on election
Dimapur, February 24 (MExN): As a forerunner to the forthcoming Nagaland Legislative Assembly elections scheduled for February 27, the Electoral Literacy Club of ICFAI University Nagaland organised a talk on ‘election process and voting behaviour in Nagaland’ on February 22. The resource person was Dr Himabindu M, Assistant Professor and Coordinator in the Department of Politics and Governance, Central University of Kashmir. Dr Himabindu highlighted on the voting process and importance of right to vote.
NSCN (IM) condoles
Dimapur, February 24 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) has condoled the demise of Ghishepu Wotsa, Leacy, Sumi Region, GPRN on February 20. He joined the Naga national service on April 18, 2017 and ‘served the nation with loyalty and dedication till his last breath.’ NSCN (IM) in a condolence note has expressed regret that the Naga nation has lost a precious son. His tireless service rendered to the nation shall be cherished. It also conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members and share their pain. “It is our prayers that the Almighty God will give them the strength and solace to overcome the tragedy. May his soul rest in peace!” it added.
NSCN/GPRN (Akato Chophi) conveys Sekrenyi greeting
Dimapur, February 24 (MExN): The NSCN/GPRN (Akato Chophi) has conveyed greetings of Sekrenyi festival to the Angami Nagas. The festival falls in the Angami month of ‘Kezei’ (February 25) with its primary objective to renewing and “make holy” of the village as a whole, and to bring forth unity. It also marks initiation of young people to adulthood. “May this festival continue to bring forth peace and unity amongst Angamis in particular and the Nagas in general. May this festival also bring prosperity and good tidings,” NSCN/GPRN (Akato Chophi) stated in a press release.
GPRN/NSCN mourn demise of three officers
Dimapur, March 24 (MExN): The GPRN/NSCN has expressed grief on the demise of three GPRN members. Lieut Motha Anal of Chandel town who enrolled in the Naga national service in 2013, passed away on February 20; Colonel Khezheto Sumi Region who enrolled in 1993, passed away on February 23; Mughato K Achumi, Jt Secretary Union Territory Region enrolled in 2006 as a cadre of Naga Army and later shifted to Secretariat service, passed away on February 23.
The MIP, GPRN/NSCN in a press release stated that Maj Gen Aheto Chophi, GSO-1, GHQ, Naga Army and Brig Khuiho Yeptho, Brigade Commander, Ghukiye Designated Camp GPRN/NSCN on behalf of all the ranks and files of Naga Army GHQ and Brigade Headquarters paid homage and condolences. “They have displayed courageousness, enthusiasm and steadfast character all throughout their service for the Naga nation and lived up as a true Naga soldier till their demise,” it stated.
The GPRN/NSCN also conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members. “The impressive service records and dedication of the late 3 officers for the Naga nation shall ever be cherished and treasured in the pages of Naga history. May the departed souls rest in eternal peace,” it stated.
