Advisor for Food and Civil Supplies, Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, and Chairman of the Urban Local Bodies and Village Council Committee, K Tokugha Sukhalu, stressed the importance of accurate census enumeration during an awareness programme on Census 2027 held at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Zunheboto, on June 10.
Addressing public leaders, officials and stakeholders, the Advisor called for public cooperation to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the data collected.
Stating that Census 2027 would be conducted in a more systematic manner, he underscored need for citizens to provide accurate information during the census exercise.
He also spoke on ration card eligibility under the Priority Household (PHH) and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) schemes, stating that households with an annual income above Rs 2.5 lakh and individuals owning vehicles are not eligible under the subsidised categories and should instead avail General Household (GHH) ration cards.

Earlier, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Zunheboto, Shaying Sheu informed that the decennial census, originally scheduled earlier, had been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, election-related activities and Urban Local Body elections.
He explained that the exercise is being conducted as Census 2027 since the final data will be published in 2027.
The ADC highlighted the importance of accurate data collection, noting that discrepancies were observed during the 2011 Census.
He informed that the ongoing phase involves House Listing Operations, while population enumeration will be carried out in February next year. The census process will also be geo-tagged to make it more systematic and transparent.
Sheu further informed that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise would commence in August following the census activities.
Meanwhile, Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Sukhalu Chishi, stated that school teachers would be engaged as enumerators and appealed to the public to extend full cooperation during the house-listing operations scheduled for this year.
The programme was chaired by Khehoshe H Yepthomi, President of Naga People’s Front Zunheboto Division. Zunheboto Area Public Organisation (ZAPO) President Kakugha S Rotokha and PS to the Advisor Semto Sumi also addressed the gathering.
